PodCamp and WordCamp will pull eyeballs to Hawaii
Oct. 3, 2008
So how do you join in and market your business and engage your customers, promote your canoe club's fundraiser, or play in the inviting social media waters if you don't know how to blog or create a podcast, let alone write code or design a Web site? Answers will swirl at PodCamp Hawaii 2008 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 24 and 25 with a concurrent WordCamp at the Hawaii Convention Center.
Midweek's Click Chick also gave us extensive coverage:
The Podcamp Hawaii 2008 Unconference
Oct. 17, 2008
Now it's Hawaii's turn. The focus of the unconference is to learn and network with experts from around the world speaking side-by-side with local bloggers and podcasters, and helping Hawaii be the center for tourism and technology. The different learning tracks include podcasting, social media, WordPress blogging and business uses.
Here are ongoing twitter streams for hashtag #podcamphawaii and for hashtag #pch08. Please note: OFFICIAL Twitter hashtag is #pch08 (small and easy to type).

I'm the Social Media Tourist of the Future and Other Excuses Why I'm Not At PodCamp/Word Camp Hawaii
October 25, 2008
My husband and I visited Hawaii 15 years ago before the Web was around. To prepare for that trip, we did months of research. We picked up some guide books from the library and wrote away to the Tourism boards for maps, brochures and suggestions. We didn't have a way to connect easily with other Tourists or know which of our friends could give us suggestions. This trip was different. While we checked out the Hawaii Tourism web site, it didn't influence our final decisions -- many which were made by reaching out to my social media friends and network. I didn't do the amount of advanced planning either - making many decisions in the moment.
