Podcasting Hawaii to Japan: Integrated Marketing to Asia through New Media Channels

Dave or Brian will show a brief video interview with Peter Williams, partner in the Official Hawaii Podcast (delivered in Japanese). He is a former radio personality and native English speaker and expert in new media in Japan. We will also talk about narrowcasting in Japan and new media in Asia (Japan, Korea, China) plus the "MyHawaii" mobile phone app developed for Japan.

About Dave Erdman

Dave Erdman

Dave Erdman is the founder and current president/CEO of PacRim Marketing Group, Inc. Dave uses his twenty five-plus years of cross-cultural communications and business experience in the marketing, hospitality, and travel industries in his consulting role at PacRim Marketing Group.

Before establishing PacRim Marketing Group in 1990, Dave was a senior consultant for Hill & Knowlton/Communications -- Pacific, Hawaii's largest public relations firm at the time. Prior to that, Dave worked at Tropical Rent-A-Car for ten years, where, as vice president of marketing and sales, he opened regional offices in Japan, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as in eight western U.S. states.

Dave was a director of Suntrips, a major charter operator to Hawaii and Mexico from California and assisted the firm with its operational and marketing transitional strategy after being purchased by an investment group. He also held positions at Maui Inter-Continental Hotel, Japan Airlines Hotel Company/Nikko Hotels in Japan, and Travel Management Associates, where he worked with clients such as the Halekulani Hotel.

Dave's past and present professional affiliations include PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association), Hawaii Chapter, where he served as chairman, the Hawai`i Visitors and Convention Bureau's marketing and research committees, the Retail Tourism Task Committee, and the Retail Merchants of Hawaii, where he continues to serve on the board of directors and on the executive committee.

In 1999, Dave was awarded The Governor's Retail Merchant Award in recognition of his contributions to the retail industry. Specifically, Dave was honored for assisting the Hawai'i Visitors and Convention Bureau with integrating retail and tourism marketing. He was the second recipient of this award that is sponsored by the Governor.

Dave has both lived and worked in Japan and is fluent in Japanese. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Hawaii, Manoa, where he majored in Asian/Japanese Studies and minored in Travel Industry Management and Marketing. He also majored in East Asian Languages/Japanese studies and business at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania.

About Brian Newman

Brian Newman

Brian Newman is Sales Manager of PRTECH, a wholly owned sister company of PacRim Marketing Group.

Newman’s background is in sales management and technology, specializing in the Asia Pacific, where he has lived and worked for nearly ten years. He is fluent in both Japanese and Chinese.

Prior to joining PRTech, Newman was Territory Account Manager/Global Alliance Manager for Juniper Networks in Tokyo, where he was responsible for IT (Internet) account management of financial and manufacturing multinational corporations in Eastern Japan, working with partners, HP and IBM. His other work experience includes: Senior Sales Manager for Datacraft Japan and Account Director for Datacraft China (Shanghai).

Newman holds a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree from The College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia, and entered the Ph.D. Program in Japanese Literature at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he studied for one year. Prior to that, he attended Kanazawa University in Japan, as part of a Japanese Government Monbusho Scholarship, and Hokuto High School in Hokkaido, Japan, on a Rotary Club Scholarship.

Newman has extensive IT sales and technology training and is a certified Cisco Sales Expert (2004).
